Octagon Theatre Bolton presents
The Rise and Fall of Little Voice
By Jim Cartwright
About
Katie Elin-Salt will be playing the role of LV, listen to her performing here!
Little Voice sits alone in the attic room of her terrace house, avoiding the attentions of her loud mouthed mother, Mari. LV’s only means of escape is through her father’s old vinyl collection –
especially the great divas: Bassey, Garland, Springfield and Holiday. But LV has a special gift: when the records stop playing the music miraculously continues, as she produces stunning
impersonations of all of her favourite stars.
When Mari’s new boyfriend hears her sing, he sees LV as his ticket to fame and fortune. But stardom is the last thing the reclusive LV is after...she just wants to be loved. Will LV face the music or set about finding her own voice?
This hilarious, moving and heartwarming story is backed up by a live band of multi-talented actor/musicians. Get ready for a stunning collection of hits including Big Spender, Over the
Rainbow and Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.
Jim Cartwright is one of Bolton’s greatest ever writers. His work is amongst the most performed in the Octagon’s history, including the World Premieres of Two and Bed.
Please note: there will be some on stage smoking of herbal cigarettes and a cigar during this production.

The route is planned as per the timings below, and all of these roads will be temporarily closed to vehicles as the torch passes through. The advice from Bolton Council is to avoid these roads and find an alternative route if possible.
5.30pm Arrives into Bolton along A58 from Hindley
6pm Wigan Road
6.21pm Deane Road
6.35pm Ormrod St
6.36pm Great Moor St
6.37pm Blackhorse St
6.38pm Ashburner St/Le Mans Crescent.
The torch route goes directly past the Octagon at this point! Please do come early to watch the event from the comfort of our café or bar area.
6.40pm Victoria Square and torchbearer handover on Town Hall steps. Torchbearer then travels along Le Mans Crescent, Deansgate and onto Spa Road
6.50pm Arrives in Queens Park playing fields on Spa Road to light cauldron on stage
If you are travelling by car then please be aware that the road closures will slow down traffic and increase congestion in other areas as people use alternative routes to make their journey. Access to the Octagon car park on Great Moor Street (Sat Nav: BL1 1TN) will still be possible if you are travelling west from Bradshawgate. Access to the disabled parking bays directly opposite the theatre, however, will be affected. There are alternative disabled parking spaces located on Cheadle Square, just off Queen Street. The bays will be suspended but if you check the notices you will see that blue badge holders are able to park there as long as a valid blue badge sign is displayed.
If you have any queries about your booking, access to the venue or anything else which we may not have covered in this letter then do feel free to contact our Ticket Office on 01204 520661 and we will try to answer your query.
Please do come early to enjoy the event, see the torch relay and join in the celebration of this national event that promises to be a historic moment in Bolton’s history. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Reviews
“Cartwright’s play is a rough-cut gem, blessed
with filthy jokes, outlandish characters, and
moments of both sentimentality and savagery...
Little Voice combines a highly original dramatic
vision with a heart as big as a house.”
